Lecture-02


Online school chale hum…. 

As the time passes science brings out the new innovative ideas for an upcoming generation. These innovations are mainly for betterment of society to make their work much easier. This blog puts up some light on one of such innovative idea developed by Mr. Salman Khan  (P.S:  Not our Bollywood’s own Bodyguard).Here we are talking about Khan Academy which is an organization on a mission. The Khan academy has succeeded till now in their mission of free education for everyone everywhere. This is a not-for-profit organization which is delivering more than 165789850 free lectures online. This site is completely available for wide range of learners then let it be student, teacher or a student coming back to studies after long time.


VISION:
Looking at Khan Academy from POM’s point of view it’s a wonderful concept derived for free teaching. www.Khanacademy.org has number of lectures stored for every subject, this lectures teach the basics as well as toughest section of those subjects in a more productive way. It is dedicated towards delivering high quality education to the recipients and Salman Khan’s ultimate vision is turning academy into charter school.


TECHNICAL, HUMAN and CONCEPTUAL SKILLS:
This peer to peer learning method has been acknowledges widely in US. Salman Khan is the founder of this organization who thought of this idea while mentoring his cousins. His friend is a President and COO of this organization. This group has grown to around 30 number of passionate, thoughtful and creative team members.
In this organization Salman deals majorly with Conceptual and Human skills whereas team members strive towards developing software for tutoring which comes under technical skills. For every organization it is essential to have a right mix of these three skills and at proper place.

Strategy of Khan Foundation:
Khan academy has motto of coaching others for better understanding of subject without charging a single penny for it. It is trying to change the current scenario of class room teaching in which students are afraid to ask questions to students or to stop them in between the lecture. This site shows only the step-by-step doodles and diagrams on an electronic blackboard which enhances the education transformation process. It also gives an opportunity to student to pause a lecture and go back to previous section and clear the concepts. This organization is adding more and more number of lectures to their library. It also runs a unique Session called Discovery lab which promotes student’s innovative ways for project based learning.


AUTHORITY and POWER:
Khan academy is not-for-profit educational organization which is funded by donations. Khan Academy is now with significant backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation and Google .Its partners organizations are making the content available outside .


LESSON:
This educational organization runs not-for-profit basis that's a USP of this organization.In a country like India where parents are spending hoards of money on tutoring this idea can bring a new ray of hope for students.


Overall Salman Khan has created an opportunity for students to enjoy learning in a more innovative way. A great applause to the new concept of global classroom!!!!!

Lec 01


1. My first class of Principles of Organization and Management
 with Dr.Mandi
This was a pleasant morning to start with a new zest and zeal for our fisrt lecture of Principles of Organization and first interaction with Dr.Mandi also. First time a class was not conducted with ppts and chalk but most importantly with tools of handmade toys.Mathematics was being taught with new ways of learning.I personally loved the innovative idea of teaching .
Not being a listener of english music first time listened to Pink floyd’s Another brick in the wall which is rebellion against the education sysytem which is actually giving only bookish knowledge and not practical knowledge. We were trying to actually relate the toys working on principles  of physics. Then we came across popular dialogue of Dr.Mandi which says “Aaj ki roti aaj hi kamana”.  A brilliant concept for sustainability which means Work today to earn your bread today. A remarkable start for new course!

Socho – Becho         Becho- Sikho             Sikho – Socho

A new mantra that we learnt this day which is all about selling your product by proper channelising your ideas and then learning from your past experiences. Going into flashback I can relate this mantra with my work ex. I was a R&D chemist in a Behr process Paints, so according to this statement I remember when the market is tough and you are really geeting neck to neck competition how you have come up with innovatiove ideas to create impact of your product in consumer’s mind. MANDI is an unique event held in NITIE which is based on this principle of selling. In this event students have to sell the handmade toys on the busy roads of Mumbai and that too on the weekday.

2.My second class of Principles of Organization and Management

Ø Tower building activity
This activity was taken to teach us imporatnce of different roles in organization.First we were made to guess number of blocks that can build a tower by our batch. A proper betting was done on the numbers of blocks this was Goal setting in terms of POM. Then the three students who bidded were selected who played the roles of three different  levels of organization i.e Worker ,Middle management and top management.
So now the target was set at 17, as17 was previously done by Nitie batch 18.Then the worker was blindfolded and was made to use his odd hand to build the tower.The middle management’s role was to guide the worker to get the tower done whereas top management’s role was to observe and interefer only few times to get the  job done.Finally after the smart working of one and half hour these three guys were able to make the tower with 18 cubes and hence the target was achieved. So I learnt two main thing i.e. achievable goal setting and then smartly working to achieve your goal. Overall it was a wonderful activity to learn roles of different levels of company.
